have an in-depth understanding of the complex
federal and state laws regulating how PHI,

2017 has clearly demonstrated that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is aggressively stepping up its enforcement action. 

Now is the time for covered entities to evaluate their compliance programs and make certain they are in step with all of the federal, as well as ​​their particular state requirements.

State attorney's general are exercising their
rights to enforce their state privacy, security, and health care laws, beyond federal regulations. Some state laws may be even more restrictive than HIPAA.

As of October 2018, nearly 186,000,000 cases of American's PHI has been unlawfully disclosed through unauthorized data breaches greatly increasing their risk of identity and medical identity theft and fraud, that number is more
than half of the U.S. population. HHS now reports more than 2,000 complaints per month, which is a significant increase since 2015.
